Designed for the 2005 Olympia HS Parade of Nerds, this “Calculus Hat” displays the graph of the sphere X²+Y²+(Z-5.25)²=12.25 and the parabola Z=(-1/4)Y²+12.5.
The elliptic parabaloid Z=(-1/4)Y²+(-1/4)²+12.5 is drawn via light path by the motorized rotation of the LED illuminated parabola about the Z-axis.
